Western University Pride 2019

Western Pride 2019
I created this artwork for Western University's Pride 2019 celebrations. Every year I design new assets used in our parade presence, on the university's websites and on physical pins. This is the 2019 concept.
This year I wanted to play with the rainbow concept a bit more and how the word pride itself could contain the rainbow without losing readability but still being nice and bold. I quickly realized that there were more colours in the rainbow than the letters in pride so I had to great creative with distributing the colours along the them.

Plus, with Western's colour being purple, I wanted the colour culminate in the purple crest and not damage the university's brand guidelines.
In experimenting with colour distribution, I explored the concept of facets and pieces to use simple shapes to carry the colour transition along. The pieces of colour became simple shapes or facets that build the word #pride, reflecting the diverse community at Western and in our community.

The word and facets work if the rainbow is contained within the word Pride or it can be used as a step and repeat to spread the rainbow around. When using the step and repeat, the Western crest can still reside within the purple word without violating brand guidelines and helping it stand out.
