The Aten Mountains

THE ATEN MOUNTAINS

This is another piece in my Afro Art Exposure Series.  A series that is taking a trip through the open source of various galleries, museums and what ever else has images to use online, blending them together and creating a piece of new and beautiful art that you can learn from and thats connected to our His(Her)Story

This image revolves around a peice a a statue highlighting the lips and nose of the Pharaoh AkhenAten.  I love this peice of sculpture.  It highlights such an African feature.  The nose and lips being so distinctive  of AkhenAten and his Queen. Truly a great artistic representation of our history. Despite the controversy caused by AkhenAten with his decision to plunge Egypt into Mono theism i personally feel still it is some of the most beautiful artwork to ever come out of Egypt and maybe Africa as a whole.

This is a multiple exposure piece created in Adobe Photoshop With source images coming from the Met Museum and Unsplash...This piece features a series of fragments from the time of AhkenAten (Amara period) and the Great Temple of the Aten 1353–1336 B.C.E.  The Fragments are pieces from the cartuoche and surrounding pillars featuring the name Aten aswell as other hieroglyphics.  Where the core image used was a fragment of a statue of AkhenAten himself featuring his nose and his lips.
The steps of this piece was a little different.  Egyptians were very big on things being even. What is on the right is on the left.  So above so below. and so fourth and so on.  So i had to start with making a full half face from the fragment of the lips and the nose

After i did that i just kinda kept with the theme and mirrored this really cool image of hte mountains. It was cool because alot  of temples and other holy sites were carved directly into or from a mountain or directly into the earth.

After creating a shape to work with and the face was placed i began to layer the face with different pieces of the remnants of the Temple of Aten.  The fragments were parts left after AhkenAtens death and his temples and city to Aten were destroyed. They used bits and pieces in other holy monuments and temples later to be erected.   So those fragments became a layer above the lips and nose and i was still able to keep the shape of his super African features.
Here is the final image.  After some color correction, tighten up a few areas, make sure the fragments are overlayed properly and this is the final.
These are the image in some practical life situations.  But you can follow the link to the redbubble page and check out these products and more.
