Book Front Cover - To Kill a Mockingbird

Ulster University - Interactive Media
MED 329 Transmedia

During this module students were given a choice of GCSE texts to build their participatory narratives. I chose "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee

To fully grasp the type of design that I wanted to create and use across all of the platforms I first experimented with designing a book cover. Using the approach of designing the platforms around the book cover as guidance. I wanted to focus on postmodernism in terms of graphic design combined with Typography
.
After researching on Behance I came across this front cover that I wanted to use as inspiration. Siobhan Ford is the graphic designer and illustrator.

I wanted to use the iconography of the cross hair, alongside the circle as the barrel of the gun. I used a sketched illustration of a mockingbird bird that I drew digitally using a Graphics Tablet and the paintbrush tool on Photoshop. I created 10 prototypes on InDesign before deciding on the final outcome.I used pastels and grey  colour palate.
