I worked on this project with two of my colleagues for our pre masters. we worked on finding a solution alternative to the students sitting on the floor because most Students suffer from back pain, and feel uncomfortable sitting on the stairs or the floors.
According to our survey done to the German University in Cairo Students, we found out that 81% of the students sit on the floor in the building’s corridors due to the lack of chairs. besides, students stated that floor sitting is uncomfortable and cold especially during winter as well as, it causes knee, leg ,back pain and numbness. Therefore, The concept was to design set of stools that turns to a bench when connected to each other. The characteristics of the design are playful, easy to carry and move, to give the students a variety of options to place the stools the way they like to satisfy their need and avoid sitting on the floor.
2D Pattern Design:
Our designs were based on experimenting different patterns. We tried different patterns as triangular and squarish forms and from these patterns we started to build a design and a model. The final design was a the triangular pattern form. We chose the triangular form as it looks unique, interesting, in addition it provokes the feeling of power, energy and coziness.
