Analysis and application of Design Methodologies for innovation
BSc graduation project
the problem
Design methodologies are everywhere and everyone wants to use them in the most diverse fields! It's not always easy, though, to choose the best fit. That's the problem our bachelor graduation project tacked.

the method
Over the course of the project, design methodologies have been studied in action, through four different case studies:
- a design internship
- a hackathon
- a Global Goals Jam
- and a small creative session.
the results
The project resulted in the creation of two tools to facilitate the choice of a design methodology. The first one (Fig.1) shows all the examined methodologies on a two-axes plane that allows for easy comparisons.
Fig.1: a matrix that plots the methodologies on two axes, depending on number of people and time needed for it to perform at its best; the small dots surrounding the methodologies highlight which phases each methodology focuses the most on.
The second one (Fig.2) is a decision flow chart, to assist and direct the methodology's choice, depending on project's scope, team compositions and all other influencing factors.
Fig.2: decision tree for helping non-designers in navigating the complexity of design methodologies and choosing the most fitting one for their project scope.
