A few snaps of our team 'Acorn to Oak' brainstorming, designing and collaborating to pitch for QUT Industry Partner 3rd Space.

As design students, we were asked to choose an industry partner that appealed to us and form groups for a three day design intensive. 3rd Space are a drop in centre for homeless people in Brisbane with a range of services and support. They presented their current situation and invited us to design for 3rd space with the intention of mitigating homelessness through meaningful initiatives while raising funds for the organisation. Breaking down the brief with the team was interesting, with many different ideas and concepts explored before deciding on the final design.

The concept of 'Wear Our Story' was in essence to connect local schools with 3rd Space visitors. The sports jerseys for school sports teams would be designed by 3rd space visitors. A QR code printed on each jersey invites the community to scan and discover the face and story behind the design. The QR code prompts the user to an Application which they can find out more information about 3rd Space and homelessness in Brisbane. This would spark a conversation with the younger generation, raising awareness and a better understanding of the scale of homelessness in their city.
Our final pitch to industry partner 3rd Space, we presented the App prototype, QR Code demonstration and handed out one pager info-graphic.
The design intensive was a great experience, it was a fantastic opportunity for us design students to gain experience with a real world organisation.
