Today we need to celebrate all the women who paved the way for us to stand where we are with the dignity and respect we deserve. Because of their struggle in the past we stand strong today.
Audre Lorde was an American writer, feminist, womanist, librarian, and civil rights activist.
"Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes." -Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.
"A woman can do anything she sets her mind on."
Florence Delorez Griffith Joyner, also known as Flo-Jo, was an American track and field athlete. She is considered the fastest woman of all time based on the fact that the world records she set in 1988 for both the 100 m and 200 m still stand.
Zenzile Miriam Makeba, nicknamed Mama Africa, was a South African singer, songwriter, actress, United Nations goodwill ambassador, and civil rights activist. Associated with musical genres including Afropop, jazz, and world music, she was an advocate against apartheid and white-minority government in South Africa.
