Screen Printed Rooster Illustrator
My mother absolutely loves roosters, her entire kitchen is filled with them. I had created a painting of a rooster for her many years back, but I was never entirely happy with it (every time I see it I look directly at the feet, those darn feet) and wanted to create something that both my mom and I would be proud of. Two years ago we created a small screen printing lab that my students are using to print shirts, posters, and even graduation invitations. As long as the lab has been up and running I knew I had to print something, not just as a demonstration for class or school related, but something on my time for myself. The rooster was a great opportunity jump in and get my hand dirty.
I decided to illustrate the rooster using Adobe CC app Illustrator Draw. I love the stylized vector illustrations that Draw allows you to create, but once again I had only been teaching it to my students, not digging into the app. As began to draw the rooster I decided that a three color print would work best, using black, white and gold ink on red paper.
Once the illustration was complete I exported the file to Adobe Illustrator in order to prepare the color separations to print.
The gold ink went down first, then white and finished the print with the black keyline layer.
