Boobs, Bibles, and Butterflies was realized when thinking about the relation between the church, puberty, and femininity and how it can be a struggle for some to embrace the changes the body goes through, and joys and struggles of being feminine, when certain beliefs from certain religions tell you otherwise.
Old and Saggy?
39 secs
Stop Motion Animation
(Puppet Animation)
Old and Saggy explores my fear of my bodies natural changes, as changes of the body when getting older (especially when female) are often not celebrated.
Animation Reel
1 min 10 secs
Dragon Frame, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Animate, and Adobe After Effects
While my animation reel features a wide variety of animation techniques and styles, my stop motion animations throughout the year of 2019 has a focus on my body and my relationship with it. Through my work I wanted to take a look at my thoughts and feelings surrounding my body and how I and the world view and understand it as a young black woman.  Bath Time came about after a series of self-doubting thoughts about the state of my body and how uncomfortable it made me to look at myself, specifically in the nude. Boobs, Bibles, and Butterflies was realized when thinking about the relation between the church, puberty, and femininity and how it can be a struggle for some to embrace the changes the body goes through, and joys and struggles of being feminine, when certain beliefs from certain religions tell you otherwise. Old and Saggy explores my fear of my bodies natural changes, as changes of the body when getting older (especially when female) are often not celebrated. I hope that through my work others can sympathize but also have a laugh with me as I overcome my struggles.
