Horror Story in the City is my latest project of a comic collection book. It mainly consists of 5 stories, all themes are surrounded by contemporary issues such as parent-child relationship, cyberbullying, and sexual abuse. It's like a collection of modern fables.

After all, what kind of illness has gotten in this modern society where a lot of bad things often happened?

The head grown from the body is the control of the parent

The window popped up on the screen is the weapon of the netizen

is the entanglement of humanity

concealing the most suspense stories of mortality

Look at the mirror, what do you see?

The look of the characters was taken from the 90s cartoon animation style: rounded shape and watery big eyes. The clothes was referred to the street wear snaps of Harajuku, Tokyo in the 90s. All together the characters was drawn digitally. By using vivid color and soft textures, it looks nostalgic and modern at the same time.

The overall style of the comics is colorful and quirky, and the story lines are kind of surreal. For the set design, I added some unique characteristics of Taipei, the city where I was born and grew up in, such as the street scenes, signboards, and antiques. I really like to add these elements in my comics, since it makes me feel more personal and also fun to draw.

The title was designed by my partner Terry. We discussed back and forth for a few times, and eventually chose the top one as the final since it suits better with the drawings. I personally like the one at the bottom-left as well. We also added some elements related to the story into the title, such as skyscrapers, stars, and hearts.

This project is now crowdfunding on FLiPER so I designed some products to sell along with the book. For example: postcard, paper tape, sticker sheet, and coin purse etc.
