Exploring Baltimore

This video of Bolton Hill and Mount Vernon is a visual documentation of the relationship between these neighborhoods in contrast to where I'm from, and what I've seen, heard and experienced in my short time of being here.

Being from Singapore, a relatively safe city, safety was something I took for granted after leaving. The video starts with an ambulance blaring down the street, a common sound  I hear since I’ve been here, representing my initial hesitancy and apprehensiveness towards the city. But as I explored the different neighborhoods, I was intrigued by all the quirks that make up Baltimore, which reminded me of the same excitement I would get when I see something quirky or funky back home.

I specifically chose Mount Vernon in contrast to Bolton Hill because of their closeness in proximity, yet with such a distinct style in the way the neighborhoods are expressed. From its street art, nature, architecture and people, this video aims to capture Baltimore as it is: authentic, expressive, bold and vibrant.
