Check the antivirus or firewall

If you are dealing with printer related problems, then you should use the built-in printer troubleshooter tool. It is quite useful for fixing basic printer problems and errors. In case the issue is software related, then the troubleshooter will troubleshoot it. If your printer is offline or canon printer not responding because of communication issues, then here is how you can use the printer troubleshooting tool. 

To get started, click Start. 

In the search bar, type troubleshoot and click on Enter. 

Click on the first search result on the screen. 

Wait for the Troubleshooting window to launch. 

After that, click on the View all button. 

Scroll the list and click on Printer. 

Now, click on the Advanced tab. 

After that, hit the Run as administrator button. 

Click on the Next button. 

Choose the Canon printer you wish to troubleshoot. 

Once more, click on the Next button. 

Now, allow the tool to detect the issues. 

Once te detected issue is fixed, close the window. 

In case the tool did not detect any issue, then proceed to the next solution. 

Verify the Connection

Your printer might not be connected to your device correctly. If you see the Canon printer offline, then the printer will not respond.  Hence it is better to check the connection of the printer. 

If you have a wired Canon printer, here is what you need to do:

You need to determine if the cable is properly secured. In case it is not, then reattach the cable and ensure that it is properly placed in the ports of the printer and computer.

First, you need to see if your network connection is working. 

Ensure that the router and modem are functional as well. 

Check the status of the network connection of the Canon printer. It will help you determine if the printer is properly connected to the internet or not. 

Try using a different network cable in case you are using a wired connection. Or else, reconnect the cable. 

If you have a wireless Canon printer, then try to reconnect the printer to the home network.

Reboot the Print Spooler Service

The print jobs on the computer are managed bu print spooler service. It takes care of all the communication between the printer and the computer. At times, users face issues such as Canon printer not responding because of a glitch in the print spooler service. Restarting the service may fix the issue. Here are the steps that will help you reset the print spooler service. 

Press Win +R to open the Run dialog box. 

Input services.msc in the text box and hit the Enter key. 

Wait for the Services screen to appear. 

Click on the Printer Spooler option. 

From the list of options at the left pane, select Restart the service.
