laser cut stencil data privacy

This project was created for an assessment for Griffith University, Making Visual Media.

The task was to create a stencil to communicate an issue from one of the allocated articles. The article I selected spoke about data privacy and how technology and our data is getting away from us.

When I think of data or technology I think of 1s and 0s and pixels and circuit boards so I used these to visualise technology and data. I arranged the numbers in the shape of a person to show the personal connection between the data escaping and the person reaching out. The phrase 'We have lost control' is meant to communicate the extent of which we don't control where our data goes.
This is the vectors I created in Adobe Illustrator. These are the lines the laser cutter will follow.
The black sections are the sections that will fall out in the laser cutter.
These are the sprayed and laser cut outcomes.
