Rochester Travel Guides

Travel Guides
For these travel guides I chose to focus on my hometown city, Rochester NY. My three guides include places to eat, festivals to go to, and activities to do, each with three of each to do. Rochester is a pretty urban city, so I wanted to do something a little different. There’s a lot of history there, so I chose to do a collage style design, mixing vintage photos and works with modern ones.

Each cover is a collage of various vintage postcards from Rochester, and to carry this postcard theme, the back is also styled after one. Each location in each category has its own collage that represents what the place has to offer, and its identity as a whole. My title font is Broken 15, a sans serif with a sort of grunge around it, fitting the urban collage theme in my books. My body copy is Athelas, a serif font that helps aid the retro side to my collage design, while also remaining somewhat modern, as the serifs aren’t too exaggerated. Each part of the location (overview, history, and what to order/do) has its own smaller collage to fit the theme of the page itself. The whole aim of these books was to convey both a nostalgia for history and also an interest in the artistic, urban side that many people come to enjoy after visiting Rochester.
