Introduction
In this project, I will share the board game illustrations I designed for the game I made in the fall of 2019. The creation of this game started with a few ideas. First, I wanted to make a board where players could go around by rolling dice and do some actions every time they stop. Secondly, I wanted the board to have a little town where players and their neighbors would be settled. The last idea was to have a special scale of events that will dictate when the game is over.
Board
The board was designed to have a central part that contains the town with a few private houses, apartment buildings, and cabins. To make the game more interesting, I made three categories of buildings: run-down, simple, and luxurious. At the beginning of each game, players would “live” in one of the houses, depending on which card they picked..
At the beginning of the game, each player receives 10 “time” pieces. Throughout the game, they can choose how and where to spend their time. For example, players could spend time at “church” (also located in the central part of the board) in return for “love” points. Additionally, they can buy Bibles or invest in a project to get more points.
There is also a cloud with a time scale. At each time interval, there is a description of an end-time event that happens before the second coming of Jesus and the end of the world. Every time a player lands on the “Prophecies are Fulfilling” cell, a special coin has to be moved up the scale toward the second coming of Jesus. Ones the coin has reached its destination, the game is over..
The outside part of the board contains a loop of cells with actions and moves. Each side of the board has nine cells, three of which are moves, and six of which are actions. The moves are to either repeat the same move or go to the next player in the front or at the back of the player’s current position. The actions include taking one of four types of action cards (Opportunity, Blessing, Bad luck, or temptation), moving a coin of the end-time events, getting married, or paying rent.
Action Cards
These cards simulate life events that happen throughout a game to the players. Players take one of the four kinds of cards whenever they stop at an appropriate cell on the board. There are two good types of cards and two bad ones.
Opportunity cards are good types of cards. These cards give you an opportunity to either switch a job or to move to a different place. The background color is green as a green light of a traffic light. The card has an open door with light behind it to represent a new opportunity as a door to something better.
The other good cards are the blessing cards. They help a player to either grow spiritually or overcome some obstacles in the game. The background color is a warm yellow color to give positive associations. A glowing hand is shown on the card to represent God’s hand reaching out from above to help.
The last type of card, temptations, is bad. These cards make your spiritual conditions worse unless you overcome the temptations written on the cards. The background color is red, which is associated with danger. A red apple is shown on the card to reference the first temptation that was faced by Adam and Eve.
Spiritual Growth
Each player gets this card in the beginning of the game to count his or her love points and spiritual levels.

The right side of this card keeps track of the love points that players can use to earn spiritual levels or to get rid of addictions. The scale for this point starts at negative ten and goes up to positive ten. Positive hearts are shown as hearts of flesh and negative hearts are shown as hearts of stone. This metaphor is taken from Ezekiel 36:26.

The left part of the card has a scale for spiritual levels. Level zero is completely black and has no flame in it. Starting from level one, there is a dim little fire that represents the presence of the Holy Spirit. At each level, the fire gets brighter and bigger. The three candle flames show at which levels a player gets a new spiritual gift. The higher the level, the closer a player is to heaven.
Baptism & Gift Cards
These cards have two shades of red for the background color on the back of the cards. This color and the cross on the baptism card is also linked to Jesus washing away our sins by being crucified on the cross. The candle fire on a gift card represents the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Bible Card
This card has a white background and an image of a Bible on the back. It also has a chart that helps to count the love points that you earn by spending time on this card.
Project Cards
These cards have a unique drawing on the backside with the name and the amount of points to give each turn to all the neighbors around. The other side duplicates this information but also displays the cost of building a project.
Home Cards
These cards show where a player lives. The illustration on the front side is the image of a house. The backside of the card has various types of information related to the cost of rent, etc. There is also a special card to choose which player gets what house.
Marriage Cards
Marriage cards summarize the effect of a spouse or child on a player. The front card has the illustration of a player game piece of the appropriate color: blue for a husband, pink for a wife, and green for a child.
Money
I designed four different bills to use as money in the game. All bills have a mammon symbol in the center. I decided to use mammon as the representation of all this world can offer. Each bill has a phrase on the bottom to tease the player and motivate him to get more money. All bills also have the value number in each of the four corners and a small font line spelling the value out around the age of a bill. The one-mammon bill is green and has “POOR PAUPER!” phrase on the bottom. The five-mammon bill is yellow and says “MONEY BRINGS HAPPINESS!”. The ten-mammon bill is blue and says “THE MORE, THE BETTER”. The twenty-mammon bill is pink and it has the phrase “MONEY TO BURN”. The colors of the bills correspond to the colors of the action cards.
Game Pieces
I made six different color sets of game pieces. Each set has a piece to represent a player on the outer loop on the board and a piece to show where a player lives. The sets also include two pieces to count your spiritual level and love score and ten pieces to count player’s available time. The game also has unique piece to show signs of the end progression on the board.
Assembling
At last, you have to put it all together! Enjoy this video of the game assembly.
