LINO PRINT WORKSHOP

LINO PRINT WORKSHOP
Over the course of the last two days, I have designed, cut and printed a few variations of a lino print. The brief for this workshop was to make a print that is based around how you feel about the Library. I chose to go for the classic 'Knowledge is Power' quote which, despite being cliche and overused, I thought would be effective on a small A5 scale. I wasn't really fussed about what I was communicating, but just wanted to focus on developing my lino print skills and seeing typography from yet another angle.

The results came out well, even though they didn't print brilliantly. After the first outcome didn't print well, I actually liked the way the rough textures and broken ink placement looked with the style of the design. I developed a few more experiments, and because I had to cut the lino over two A6 plates as there were no more A5 plates left to buy at the Chelsea shop, it meant that I could play around with the positioning of the top and bottom halves of the design.
I do really like the raw, messy aesthetic because I think with the font choices it adds a dynamic sense of movement and abundance. The lino printing process is really enjoyable for me, and I am really connected to the authentic nature and the idea of 'happy accidents'. I would like to use it more in my own work.
