Transmedia Storytelling for LAPA publishers: Thomas@

This project is very close to our hearts and LAPA publishers came to us at the perfect time to execute it. LAPA was looking for a way to get teens excited about reading. We were asked to develop an idea to market their latest release in the popular Thomas@ series of teen fiction.
Diving into the story gave us the perfect angle on the characters in the book as they prepared for a battle of the bands contest. What resulted was a transmedia storytelling experience that brought story elements out of the book into the real world. Though rabbit holes that we left in the book lead readers to:
stolen photos of a supposed love affair;
a sound recording of the bands first soundcheck;
the battle of the bands website;
an online mixing board to create a version of the band's song;
a playable game mentioned in the book;
chat sessions between characters in the book; and, among other things
The response to Thomas@rock-ster.net was overwhelming. The first run of the title sold out in a quarter of the time that it took the previous title in the series. Added to that, it sold 300% more than the previous title did – proving how effective transmedia marketing can be.
