During the reign of King Edward the Confessor 1042-1066 a church is recorded as having been on this site.
15th-century reconstruction between 1467 to 1497. A Perpendicular Gothic style.
During the medieval period this was a visual statement founded and financed by wealthy wool merchants intending to impress on their prosperity.
