ART+DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP 2020

Artist Statement

Growing up, I loved anything I could create or do with my hands from little arts and crafts to following instructions to building a big shelf. I have always been very much a perfectionist with an eye for clean, precise and pleasing lines, but occasionally try to push myself more gesturally. As I entered high school, I began talking with my birth mom and learned that she had gone to interior design school but never was able to finish. Learning that, along with my incredible high school art teacher, was what pushed me into wanting to be an art major.
Within my current practice I have been very interested in ceramics and woodwork. Working in the woodshop has been such a fun learning experience and I see myself doing a lot more work with wood in the future. Ceramics gives me so much freedom to create so many things while still being able to control and achieve precise forms and lines.
Currently my goal after graduation is to continue school for interior design. I hope to then bridge both my sculpture skills with interior design and create pieces and installations for homes, businesses etc.. Going into this summer I plan to intern for my birth aunt at her kitchen and bath design business and not only create a bond and relationship but also grow in my design knowledge. My ultimate goal is to make beautiful art that enhances the space around it while the art itself is enhanced by the space.
