This project was a part of a bookmaking workshop where we worked in groups to make five identical artist books as our final assignment. We collectively chose the song Crazy by Gnarls Barkley and based this book on that song. While planning, we kept in mind a few keywords like crazy, chaos, and confusion.
The book cover consists of a detachable spine as it would make the book easy to carry with spine on and easy to display as well with the spine off.
The book is divided into three main parts—two accordions and a flag book. The flag book is between the two accordions and is based on the repetitive chorus of the song. The accordions have four pages each and contain four different step accordions in total that illustrate the other stanzas of the song.
Work for the production of the components of each book was divided within our group but each person put together an entire book individually, producing five copies at the end of it.
I made the illustrations for the step accordions and put together the first copy of the book. After the illustrations were sorted out into layers, Noor and Aanchal did an intense amount of cutting for all the five books.
The flag book was planned and made by Samridhhi and Srishti in a way that when it is fully opened, it will create an illustration for the chorus.
