Title: Stabbed Apples
Medium: Acrylic on paper
Year: 2019
Collection: Final artwork
Theme: Real-life (Vanitas)
This artwork depicts the innocence of apples that are stabbed with knives, which are also known as weapons. The knives evokes a sense of impurity towards the apples, that are recognisably known as the fruit of Adam and Eve. Apples are often portrayed as innocent fruits, as seen in the bible, as well as fairy tales; apples are often eaten by innocent, young princesses. Apples are often resonated with princesses and beauty. It indulges a sense of purity and innocence. With the weaponise knives being stabbed into the apples, it contaminated the apples, making it poisonous. This artwork portrays the poison of innocence.
Above the artwork, it shows the documentation process of the painting itself, it portrays on how it was initially planned. Under the influence of Vanitas, the painting was painted based on a real-life set up that was set-up by myself. I bought the apples at the market and the knives from a value store to save production cost.
