Father and Daughter Working Together
Nature to Ink, fabric and stories
I was always inspired by my Dad Roger, Spences artwork that he did by hand in ink. The artwork itself when you first look at it was decieving to the eye. It had to be pointed out what the art represented, thats what i loved about his work. The other thing was how he always did things in a circle which he had always said was the circle of life and how everything always seems to repeat itself in life. I had utilized my favourites of his designs and wrote stories about them. I used natural fabrics, dyes with contrasting vibrant colour for my interpetation of his works of art through applique design. Dad doesnt seem to interested in furthering his artwork so now I do my own applique designs first then the stories. The next step is to learn how to capture them on canvas or the same way dad did through hand drawing and ink.
Union of Mother Frogs
The circle is present in all that lives and exists.
The mother frogs are sisters all from the same mother.
These sisters gather, mothers as sisters, all looking the same but each one offering different beliefs to the union.
They blend together in a beautiful harmony of respect. Then, each one leaves the circle alone, filled with spirit and strong with self.

Revival of Butterfly Trans
Through struggles and hardship, the butterfly we see has transformed itself into existence.
Once a pale worm crawling on the ground, it shelters itself from the world into a cocoon to reincarnate.
During this most miraculous of stages it braves an uncertain fate, for those within the cocoon must inevitably change or they can never be free.
When ready it emerges, breaking through the leathery shell of fear one leg at a time, one wing at a time, drying the moisture of with the sun.
One wing, then another unfolds to expose the full extent of the transformation.
Fairytale. Magical, whimsical colours radiate with confident humility.
The delicate balance of rhythmic fluttering represents the revival of the butterfly transformation.

Sun Snake Deception

Deception can be an awakening experience.
Beauty comes in many different forms. Through fear and misconception we can be blinded from the true meaning of beauty.
Sun Snake Deception reminds us to use our knowledge and understanding, and to open our minds to the beauty in every thing with which we co-exist.
It teaches us to remember that everything has its purpose and it is our gift to know it

Salmons Journey Home

There is always a new sunrise and a new sunset. The quiet creek shimmers red with salmon. The females lay their eggs and the males strengthen them. Some of the eggs make it through the winter and hatch into fingerlings.
The swim downstream to the ocean is easy, for they are young. As they enter the mouth of the sea, some of the fish are excited, some are afraid. Some don’t leave the delta. The big blue waters offer many opportunities good and bad. If they survive, what stories they will tell.
They grow and enjoy their newfound world. Then, driven by an unexplainable calling to go home, they start swimming up river. It isn’t an easy journey back. They are older now. They fight currents, low waters and sharp rocks. Some give up but others keep on, pushed by a force they don’t even understand.
Only the strong end up where it all started, in the calm pools of rest. Here, they leave the new generation of eggs to continue the salmons’ journey home.

The art work below is my own work of applique, design and stories. I cannot wait to finish it with art work of the desgn done on canvas or ink.
The Loon Necklace
The lake sparkles capturing the last light of the day. The loon cries to share the knowledge to who would listen. Only one person in the village understands the cries. She was drawn to the lake shore waiting for loon. Slowly and calmly the loon floats ashore and said “woman, mother, daughter the chosen one who hears my cry”. It will be you who passes my medicine and wisdom. You are the healer of your people now. The healer is not to be taken lightly for who it is destined. It’s the most gratifying gift you can offer the world. This will be very challenging to keep your balance of self. Everyone in the village will go to you for guidance and strength. Your power and energy will attract everyone from far and wide. But remember this you must not forget yourself on the journey. To continue helping the people with the gift you have replenish your strength and energy as much as you can. I give you the symbol of the loon necklace that will remind you of my words. Please don’t forget when your energy is low come visit me at the lakeshore and I will cry for you to help you through. You will never be alone. by Nadine Spence

Little Hummingbirds Day

I see you pure little hummingbird be free to see, touch, hear, taste and smell. Go showcase your brightly coloured coat, energetically humming your rapidly moving wings to the world. What is wrong little hummingbird why do you stop? Hummingbird said “I am confused how come they don’t like me at school? They don’t like my coat, the way I talk, I don’t understand their words. I am afraid I don’t move to their pace and they laugh at me when I ask questions.” It will be ok little hummingbird be strong not to lose your dreams and gifts, be patient with them until they open their eyes. It may take them time to learn from the heart before they teach. Your time will come when they come to you and ask for your wisdom and guidance. When the day comes be humble little hummingbird and enlighten them with your knowledge and skill. That will be your day the day of hummingbird’s institutional revolution.

Empowered That One To Be

Raised together we played together and shared forever. Our laughter ours tears solidified our love through out the years. Pointing no fingers even when wrong, protecting each other as we all went along. Nurturing the spirit mind and soul even when one felt they had no control. One was so quiet and kind as can be. The other was full of giggles and glee. Third was strong with patience and more. Number four was the one that liked to explore. We new there were times where one had to leave and another would stay.
And when it was time for ones light to shine brightly for all to see
We all gathered together and empowered that one to be.

Black Widow Moon

Black widow moon magically spins its web to the rising of the sun. The morning dew glistens on the ghostly web. widows legs float gently across glowing almost iridescent master piece of life's net. As the wind blows and the widows work of art trembles there is a sense of fragileness, which couldnt be any further from the truth. While the fading of the sun and the coming of the new moon, black widow understands the time for rest is near. The web of lifes strength is replenished with the rising of the moon.
Dragonfly’s Voice

The things we have seen from the beginning to present, changes in the land from lava to rock then from water to ice. Plant life to dinosaurs suddenly appears just to vanish to fossil and bone through out the years. We adapted to the air, moon, sun, stars and the rain. Along came the two legged that walked and were sane? This one we are puzzled for of all that we have seen. It all began when they created the machines. They think they are better than what ever existed before, destroying the land air and water through war. Why are they blind to not see what they do? Thinking they can control nature those arrogant fools. Taking things for granted we sure hope they will see. They ignore the past and the dragonfly’s voice. Listen to your children and give them a choice.
