Chief Website Design

Chief Professional AV Solutions

This is my redesign of the Chief website that we launched in 2011. Before working on this updated design, I traveled to a tradeshow in Colorado to help conduct live user testing with around 30 of our dealers. Our users liked Chief’s current site, but found it too complicated and primarily used the search functionality. This updated design aimed to reduce the visual clutter and simplify our search. rAVe, one of the AV industry’s largest news sources, awarded the redesigned site ‘AV’s Best Website’ in their 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. Through marketing and SEO efforts I helped increase the number of unique visitors to the site by 62%.
On the left are a sketch and wireframe planning and the final implementation of the search results page. Our goal was to make it easier for our users to find the correct product. This new design added filtering, sorting, and compare functionality that didn’t previously exist. Users tell us that our product search is now one of the best parts of our site.

Shown on the right is a redesigned product page. Our users wanted to see multiple views of our products and find out which TVs a mount they already owned was compatible with. I designed this page with the additional functionality as well as a simpler interface.
In preparation for the next iterations of the Chief website, I conducted a user survey with over 200 responses and gathered data from Google Analytics for a variety of different critical metrics. I then compiled the resulting data into a 22 page report outlining the information along with my suggestions.
On of the most requested items in our survey was for the ability to log into the website and receive custom pricing. Our additional goal was to bring our certification program into our main website and consolidate several login systems that already existed. We had several meetings to discuss the requirements and then I used Balsamiq to wireframe the new login. After that I designed and coded the final forms.
Chief’s training program used to exist as an external site and the experience of signing up and launching training was less than ideal for both users and administrators. Our goal was to streamline the process of launching courses and requesting transcripts, and make it easier for users to see their current status. I sketched, designed, and coded new pages for the program within our existing site.
Our analytics data showed a steady increase in mobile users for the Chief website. To improve the current stand-alone mobile site that I designed I began testing a responsive homepage redesign with an HTML mockup. This code along with design decisions based on data I gathered will drive the next version of the site.
