Our assignment was to transform a unique building in Gent to a hostel. "Dagblad Vooruit" was build in 1930. So I decided to base my concept on the most interesting event of that time: "prohibition". It was a perfect concept for the history of the building and for a hostel. The entrance was marked with light circles. These reflect the forms that mark prohibition: the hats, bottles, glasses,... I used shipping crates all over the building to get the feeling of secret liquor stacking. In the rooms the bonk beds and couples beds would be build in the form of secret shipping crates. In the basement there would be a speak easy that is only accessible by a door that is marked as high voltage.
