The nonprofit recently held its first Advocacy Day to Fight Food Allergies, during which it held meetings with members of Congress to help in the passage of the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education & Research (FASTER) Act. The proposed legislation would require the government to begin collecting nationwide allergy data, while also expanding allergen labeling to include sesame.

FARE chief executive officer Lisa Gable notes that the act could be vital for the 32 million people who have potentially life-threatening food allergies, as well as the approximately 1.5 million who are allergic to sesame. In addition, FARE thanked the volunteers who went to Washington, D.C., to share their stories with members of Congress.
