BLUE PRINT SCOTCH WHISKY PRINTED LABEL
The creative brief was to create a label for a special edition Scotch whisky celebrating the 20 years of the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh, Scotland. I drew inspiration from the lines of the poles outside the bay windows and the bold architecture of the building.
My goal was to create a tactile, visually unique label with foiled type reminiscent of metal in it's texture and finish. The final handcrafted result was created by laser printing the design onto black paper and then adding foil with the help of a heat source.
Black laser print on black paper. I then placed random pieces of cut foil in blue, silver and gold. Finally, I used a hot iron instead of a laminator as you can use non-uniform pressure and so create a rougher, more distressed texture which effectively resembles heavy hammered metal.
