Artichoke Reductive Form, Icon, and Info-graphic Poster

This project determines the essential aspects of a three-dimensional object that can be used to communicate its nature in a two-dimensional representation. In this case, the object I have chosen is an artichoke. I have made a reductive artichoke representation and an artichoke icon. The design explores organic and geometric forms, the relationship between thin line and massive solid, and other contrasting and harmonious forms. This exploration produces dynamic, simplified visual descriptions of the object.
The reductive composition of the artichoke I have made is now combined with a single, visually engaging representation of the object and the name of the object. The font I used is Thin Extended from the Helvetica typeface family. The project explores the dynamic contrast, rhythm, and balance in relationships between shape, line, and space, while clearly maintaining the identity of the object.
This info-graphic poster has information that explains the characteristics of the artichoke object. The artichoke is known to be the unbloomed perennial thistle. The poster provides a description of the history of the artichoke and a diagram about the different parts of an artichoke. It also has a list of benefits of eating an artichoke within the reductive design on the left. Some benefits of eating an artichoke is that it reduces the levels of bad cholesterol, helps prevent prostate cancer, improves the functions of the digestive system, helps with weight-loss, etc. One fun fact is that Marilyn Monroe was crowned the artichoke queen in 1947.
