Color for Interiors Reflection

Our second board assignment of Color for Interiors was this Line Drawing & Color Scheme board. I spent a substantial amount of time on this board attempting to get all of the lines perfectly traced from the original print. I was very proud of my image as well as my color mixing for the new color scheme. I keyed my board and posted my title on paper that worked well given my color scheme. While we were presenting in class, I began to realize that there was something missing, my board didn't seem quite as presentable in comparison to many others in the class. Then I noticed that I was drawn to the boards that framed all of their images on the board.

For my third board of the semester, Rug & Painting, I put extra effort in to make mine stand out the most. I backed all of my images, fabrics, and texts in colored paper and labeled everything more professionally. I loved the look of this board; it spoke very much to my personality and taste. But again as I sat through presentations I found myself thinking my board was not the cream of the crop. Then I realized that the exemplary boards all wrapped their fabrics and created dimension.

So what did I do for my fourth board? You guessed it, I wrapped my fabrics. I had no idea what the proper technique was, but I was determined to figure it out. Three hours later, I was pretty proud of my work. When laying out my board I was careful to keep in mind our class discussion of the constant outer border and balance between the top, bottom, left, and right hand sides of the board. When it came time for presentations, I finally felt as though my board was one of the best.

I have learned that I am able to create something beautiful and cohesive by growing from my mistakes and taking note of others' strong points. I'm also starting to see that my personal style does not always result in the best overall look. Every style has its own beauty and I need to know when and how to use each one.
